Open a Taboola or Outbrain Account
Open the account the network will actually serve. Self-serve is fast. A managed account is a rep, block lists, and a path onto the publishers you want.

The account is step two. It comes after you have picked a product that already sells and that a stranger would read about. An account with nothing to advertise is a login, not a business.
Taboola, Outbrain, and NewsBreak are the three networks this build uses. They are not the same door. Treat them as three applications, not one "native" switch.
Self-serve is not the same account
You can open a self-serve account in a few minutes. The form feels like every other ad platform. Nothing on the screen tells you that the inventory behind it is different.
A managed account is the other path. You get a person you can write to. You can refuse placements you do not want, including the push-style inventory that sits away from the article. You can work toward a list of publishers you do want, instead of taking whatever the open auction hands you.
That difference is the whole point of this step. Fast access to the wrong inventory teaches you that native "does not work," when the test never reached the readers you thought you were buying.
If a network turns the first application down, that is information, not a dead end. The course of action is the next network, not a second fake application to the same one.
Pick one network first
Do not open all three on day one. You want one place where the product, the country, and the rules line up.
Use the country you already ship to, and the product you already marked as a yes. Then ask which door fits:
- Taboola is the default people mean when they say "native." The managed path has a queue and a real review. Read what Taboola ads are, and when they make sense before you apply.
- Outbrain is the other large content grid. The audience and the publishers overlap with Taboola less than people assume. What Outbrain ads are is the short version.
- NewsBreak is the third door in this build. It does not gate accounts the same way. If Taboola or Outbrain is the wrong first home for your product or your country, NewsBreak is a real option, not a consolation prize. The platform comparison is worth reading before you choose.
One network. Learn its account, its names for things, and its rules. The second network is a scaling step, after something is working. That later step is how to scale a winning native ad.
Make the first submission the real one
Apply as the business that will actually run the ads. The store URL should be the store you will send traffic toward, or a clear page on that domain. The product should be the one you picked. The country on the form should be a country you can ship to.
Have these in front of you before you start the form:
- Legal business name and the site it operates
- The product URL and a one-sentence description of what it does
- Where you ship
- Who will log in and who will pay the invoice
- A note that you plan to send the click to an article first, then to the product
Do not borrow a friend's account, and do not describe a different product "just to get approved." The review is part of the setup. A yes on the wrong story becomes a mess the first week you try to run the real offer.
If the network asks what you will spend, answer with the truth about the test you can actually run. Do not invent a large number to look serious, and do not look for a magic minimum on this page. There isn't one that fits every store. The right size is whatever lets you read the test after the page and the tracking exist. Those steps come next.
What "ready" looks like
You are done with this step when all of the following are true:
- You know whether the account is self-serve or managed
- You can name the person or the inbox you write to if something looks wrong
- You know how to block placements you do not want, or you have asked the rep to do it before the first dollar
- The business details on the account match the store
- You have not launched a campaign yet
Launching is step six. Tracking is step five. The store and the article come before both. If the account is approved and the article does not exist, leave the account quiet.
The next page is Set Up Your Store for Native Ads. If you want the managed-account path without treating a big spend number as a ticket in the door, read how a Taboola managed account works.
The account paths for all three networks, including what to do when the first one says no, are module work inside Native Advertising Mastery for E-Commerce. Price, guarantee, and who it is for are on the course FAQ.

FAQ
Can I start on a self-serve account and upgrade later?
You can open one. Know what you opened. Self-serve and managed are not the same inventory with a nicer inbox. If your plan depends on refusing bad placements, start on the path that lets you refuse them.
Taboola said no. Do I quit?
No. Ask why, fix the thing they named if it is real, and look at Outbrain and NewsBreak before you decide the channel is closed. One network's no is not the channel's no.
Should I hire a media buyer to open the account?
A buyer can submit the form. They cannot pick the product or write the article for you. Open the account when the product is chosen. Hire help later, and hand them a store that is already set up.
